POSITIV SESONGSTART FOR A-LAGET

Det ble tett mellom kampene i serieåpningen for A-laget, med kamp fredag og mandag. Les Mason Ministers betraktninger om gruppa og serieåpningen her.

We are an energetic team, with a clear identity that is growing game by game. I think people can already see this for themselves just by watching us play.

In our squad against Gimletroll 13 of 15 players have been Grane players in either children’s or ungdomsfotball. That’s something we set a big price on and only want to maintain in the coming years.

Around the team we are insanely lucky, we have Bård (assistant coach), Finnbogi (GK coach) and Simon (lagleder and egg provider). Both team’s we have met so far have been jealous that we have such a set up. Having so many lovely people around the team makes the team feel more powerful.

Our aims for the season are clear:
1. We want to see the same faces in the squad come the end of the season.
2. We want to grow game by game.
3. We want to focus on our performances, not the results.

Summary Søgne 2:
We surprise Søgne early on with a well organised press and get a penalty after 1 minute. To see how we succeed in this phase brings a lot of joy because it is probably the thing we spend most time talking about and training. I know we have players who are going to create chances, what I have always missed from Grane’s A-Lag is an identity without the ball. The message is clear to the boys, you get on board with this or you will struggle for minutes.

The game itself ebbs and flows between who is the dominant team and we go under 2-1 within 15 minutes. We responded with positive energy and show growth from the Trauma game, where conceding 2 goals made us lose belief in ourselves. We turn it around by sticking together and maintaining our game plan and identity. Sadly, we don’t see the performance over the line, but the spirits in changing room after is high.

Summary Gimletroll:
Throughout the majority of the game Gimletroll struggle to create chances, we maintain an organised defensive structure and give a solid effort for the whole 90+. We find a better balance than in the Søgne game where we often focused on maintaining possession of the ball instead of hurting the opponent when they were imbalanced.

This is a game where focusing on the result gives a misleading representation of the game. The scoreboard says 2-1, but it could quite easily have been 4/5 more goals for Grane and maybe 1/2 for Gimletroll.

If we continue to apply ourselves defensively and continue making movements, we are going to compete with everyone. There is not a team in the league I do not look forward to playing with this group of players and staff.

Final Thoughts
We are aiming to create an environment where the boys feel comfortable making mistakes. In the sessions leading up to the first games of the season, I spoke a lot about Roger Federer. Roger Federer has only won %53 of his game points his whole tennis career. The insight to this is that it’s not about the mistakes we make, it’s about how we respond to those mistakes that counts.

We are excited for our game this weekend. We will be full of energy, we will bring a positive energy towards each other and we will leave a performance on the field we are proud of.
